Did you know that...

…when the Minor League Baseball team in New Britain changed its affiliate from the Red Sox to the Minnesota Twins in 1995 they were originally the Hardware City Rock Cats?

New Britain, Connecticut is affectionately known as "Hardware City" because it is the home to the tool and hardware giant Stanley Black & Decker. The team wanted to reference this congenial moniker and they spent their first two seasons with that title until they decided to switch over to the current New Britain option. In both seasons the team finished in 5th place with a record under .500.

Based on the only logo I could find, it was a wise decision to change the name. That cat shredding on a guitar is pretty brutal. They even gave him a leather jacket, a pompadour , sunglasses (although someone probably pitched them as "shades") and he's giving the metal horns with his right paw...YIKES! It's as if they commissioned the rights to the creation of the logo a huge Stray Cats fan.

  1. The name "The Hardware City Rock Cats" makes me think of rock n' roll and some crazy 80's movie :).

  2. If had any musical talent, that might be the name I'd choose for a shitty cover band.
