Carreno named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

New Hampshire Fisher Cats starting pitching Joel Carreno was named Pitcher of the Week of the Eastern League for the period of May 16th through May 22nd following two ridiculous starts in which the 24-year old picked up wins over Binghamton and New Britain. His line is a thing of beauty:

2 W, 12 1/3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 15 Ks

After starting out 0-3 over his first six starts, Carreno has been a force over his last three starts, allowing only one run in 19 1/3 innings. He now has 53 strikeouts on the season over 48 innings of work and after allowing 8 home runs in his first five starts, he has not allowed any over his last four. To say he has finallt settled in to Double-A ball would be an understatement.

Carreno is the first Fisher Cat to earn the honors this season and the second regional player to get it, following Yangeris Solarte of New Britain who earned Player of the Week honors for the period of April 25th - May 1st.

Congrats Joel for this well deserved honor!
