Game of the DayRock Cats vs. Curve – The Rock Cats pull into Altoona for their first meeting of the season against the Curve tonight, kicking off a three game series and a six game road trip for the Cats. New Britain currently sits four games back of first place Trenton in the E.L.’s top heavy Eastern Division. They have slouched so far in June, with a 4-7 record pulling them down the standings. Tonight they throw out the pleasantly surprising Steve Hirschfeld, who despite a 3-4 record has been solid in 11 starts this year. Hirschfeld’s 2.32 ERA and 1.03 WHIP are both fourth best in the Eastern League. He has gone 0-2 in June, but has only allowed one run in each of those two outings. He will be opposed by Bryan Morris, a highly touted right hander for the Pittsburgh Pirates. This will only be the sixth start of the season for Morris who has been working primarily out of the bullpen following an oblique strain that kept him out for a month. Morris was ranked the sixth best Pirates' prospect by Baseball America coming into the season. He was knocked around a bit in his start against Erie last Wednesday, allowing four earned runs, but prior to that had only allowed nine runs over 27 2/3 innings.
