Game of the Day - Clippers vs. PawSox - After dropping last night’s game 7-5, the PawSox (71-54) find themselves back in a tie atop the I.L. North with Lehigh Valley (72-55) who has strung together a three-game win streak. Pawtucket will be looking to split their four game series versus Columbus tonight and also the season series which tilts in the Clippers favor 4-3. Columbus pushes Mitch Talbot to the hill for his fourth start of the season. He has endured multiple DL stints this season, thanks to back and elbow issues, and was knocked around for a bit with the Indians before being sent back down to Columbus. In three appearances during August, Talbot has gone 5 innings and has allowed 8 earned runs and 11 hits. The recently signed Greg Smith is slated to pitch for Pawtucket tonight after being released from the Yankees organization where he made 13 appearances with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Smith is a lefthander who last pitched on Saturday against Syracuse when he surrendered only 1 earned run and scattered 6 hits over 5 1/3 innings. Smith did appear against Columbus from the bullpen in back-to-back games in July, allowing 5 earned runs over 3 innings…Seventeen regular season games remain for the PawSox (who have two more left to play than the Iron Pigs), including six straight against Syracuse (55-67) starting with four games against the SkyChiefs at home Saturday night. They also have six games remaining against the Scranton Wilkes/Barre Yankees (62-62)…The PawSox have done a ton of roaster shuffling over the last few days with notable moves including Matt Fox and Brandon Duckworth being sent to the 7-day DL and “All-World” Ryan Lavarnway getting called up for a cup of coffee with the big club, while Alex Wilson and Will Middlebrooks have made the jump up from Portland to help out in the playoff stretch.
