Game of the DayFisher Cats vs. Flying Squirrels – After last night’s 4-3 comeback win, the Fisher Cats are on the verge of their first road sweep since they took three from Reading at the beginning of May. Richmond will be looking to halt those plans by tossing their best pitcher at New Hampshire tonight, in what could be a solid pitcher’s duel. Richmond’s Eric Surkamp has dominated the Eastern League this year and has warranted a callup to Triple-A Fresno at the very least. He is second in the Eastern League in strikeouts (140) and ERA (2.05), third in the league in WHIP (1.12) and tied for third in wins (8). Surkamp is 5-0 over his last eight starts and has not lost since June 3rd against Reading. This will be his first start against New Hampshire this season. New Hampshire starter Chad Jenkins bookended July with victories and has given the Cats five or more innings in each of his ten starts with the club. However Jenkins has allowed 10 earned runs, 17 hits and 7 walks over his last 16 innings of work. The big righty’s first Double-A start was against the Flying Squirrels back on Jun 11th when he scattered 7 hits and only allowed 2 earned runs, but picked up the loss in 7 innings of work…Richmond is currently 1 game back in the Western Division. New Hampshire is now 3 ½ games up on second place Reading in the Eastern Divison…New Hampshire’s Travis d’Arnaud has three straight multiple-hit games and is hitting .429 against Richmond this year with 4 doubles, 4 RBI and 3 runs.
