Game of the Day – Tigers vs. Spinners – Connecticut picked up their first win of August with a 6-1 win victory over the Spinners last night. The Tigers had lost their first four games of the month and with last night’s win they have now set the Spinners into a three game tailspin. Both teams are under .500 and mired in the middle of the NYPL’s Stedler Division with 20 wins apiece. The Tigers (20-26) hold a slight edge in the standings with two less losses than the Spinners (20-28). Luis Angel Sanz will be gunning for his fifth win of the season in his tenth start for the Tigers. He has had two prior starts versus Lowell this year, is 1-0 and has allowed allowed 2 earned runs, 9 hits and struck out 9 in 10 innings. Sanz has whiffed 52 batters in 49 1/3 innings and is tied with two other pitchers atop the NYPL leaderboard for strikeouts. The Spinners will be aided by the rehabbing Felix Doubront to start the evening and of course the added security of a few dozen storm troopers on Star Wars Day! Doubront will start the game and toss two innings as he eases back into things following a hamstring injury. Lowell will be the fourth team that Doubront has pitched for this season after stints with Boston, Pawtucket and Portland….Tonight will be the Spinners last home game before they host the 2011 New York-Penn All Star Game on August 16th. Tickets are still available…The rehabbing Ryan Kalish will be playing centerfield and leading off for the Spinners tonight. This will be his first action in the field after DHing in his first rehab start on Thursday when he went 0-2 with a walk…Connecticut’s Dean Green is second in the NYPL with a .352 batting average and over his last ten games he is batting .405 with 9 RBI.
