Lifetime Lowell resident, longtime Massachusetts state representative and namesake of the Spinners ballpark, Edward A. LeLacheur passed away last Thursday evening, August 5th, after a long battle with ALS. Tuesday night the Spinners honored LeLacheur by flying the flags at half mast, observing a moment of silence and the ultimate honor, winning a game for him! The Spinners took out State College 5-2 on the heels of 16 hits. LeLacheur will be honored for the remainder of the 2010 season as his name will be painted on the field behind home plate. Boston.com

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats are getting help from all of their roster this season, but some players tend to stand out more than others. Examiner.com reporter Thomas Pinzone recently shed some light on more of an unsung pitcher in a star-studded staff. B.J. LaMura has quietly put together a nice season after a fairly slow start. Over his last three starts, he has picked up 2 wins, worked 17 innings and has only allowed 2 earned runs and 7 hits. Plus he recently won Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honor. Learn more about Mr. LaMura thanks to Mr. Pinzone. Examiner.com

Josh's Reddick's big week earned him PotW honors in the International League and has now landed him on Baseball America's Hot Sheet. On the other side of things, Lowell's Bryce Brentz hit the "Not-So Hot Sheet" for his not-so-good week and oh-so-rough season. Brentz is struggling on the year, batting .171 in 47 games. The MiLB Minors Moniker Madness tournament is down to the Final Four (am I allowed to call it that without paying the NCAA?). Amazingly there are two remaining local players in the mix. Lowell's Seth "The Hammer" Schwindenhammer took out 16th seed Gookie Dawkins and claimed the Natty Nattress bracket. New Hampshire's Bubbie Buzachero took out the #9, #1, #5 and #2 seeds respectively to win the Razor Shines bracket. Now the bad news. Both of our local heroes have to face each other for a shot in the Finals. The good thing is that one of them HAS to advance. So vote for Bubbie or vote for Hammer, just continue to vote for our local names. Minors Moniker Madness
