Revere Out for Season

New Britain Rock Cats centerfielder Ben Revere will miss the rest of the season after suffering two orbital fractures near his right eye. Revere was hit in the face with a pitch on Tuesday night during the first inning of a game against the Erie Seawolves. Minnesota's first-round selection in 2007 (28th overall), Revere has been the most steady presence in the Rock Cats lineup all season batting .297 from the leadoff spot with 13 extra base hits, 22 runs batted in, 39 runs and 31 stolen bases.

Since joining the Twins organization in 2007 Revere has been an All-Star at every level, including his start in the this years Eastern League All-Star Game. He was also part of the 2010 All Star Futures Game that was played in Anaheim prior to the MLB All Star Game. The 22 year-old has earned the Sherry Robertson Award as Twins Minor League Player of the Year in both 2008 and 2009 and he seemed to be well on his way towards making it a three-peat this season, prior to the injury. The promising prospect is on a clear the path to the big leagues, so the Twins decided it was best to shut him down for the rest of the year and not risk anything with only one month to go. Unfortunately this means that Rock Cats fans won't get to enjoy the fan favorite down the stretch and may have seen him play his last game in a New Britain uniform.

DL SIDE NOTE: On a lighter disabled list note (unless you're a Red Sox fan), last week in our August Promotions post we added this gem regarding the New Hampshire Fisher Cats giveaway on August 17th:

17th - Kevin Youkilis Bobblehead Giveaway - Red Sox fans beware! If my calculations are correct, every single bobblehead giveaway of a Sox player this year in New England has been of someone on the disabled list. Beckett, Buchholz, Pedroia, Ellsbury...Hopefully Youk can buck the trend.

It looks like the "2010 Curse of the Bobblehead" rears its ugly head once again!
