Boof Beaten; Perez Dazzles for NH; Rock Cats Struggles Continue

If Boof Bonser (0-1) and Ramon Ramirez were hopeful about making the jump up to Boston anytime soon, they did not help their causes today. Bonser got pounded to the tune of 9 earned runs over 2 innings. Ramirez, in relief, allowed another 3 runs in just one inning and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs cruised to a 12-0 victory in the afternoon tilt in Pawtucket. The teams split the two game series and now the PawSox hit the road for the first time this season, starting with a three game series against the Buffalo Bisons. First game of the series is tomorrow at 3:05pm. The PawSox are now 3-3 following a six game home stand to start the season.

Luis Perez (1-0) was the story of the evening as he was dealing down in Pennsylvania. The Fisher Cats starter did not allow a hit until Domonic Brown singled off of him in the seventh inning. The Fisher Cats picked up the 5-2 victory and Perez went seven innings, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out three batters. Jonathan Diaz and David Cooper led the balanced New Hampshire offense with two hits apiece. The Fisher Cats wrap up their road trip in Reading tomorrow night before coming home to Manchester for the home opener on Thursday.

The New Britain Rock Cats dropped their fifth straight game at home to start the season. The Portland Sea Dogs put up an 8 spot for the second straight night, while the Cats where held scoreless for the first time this year. The New Britain bullpen failed starter David Bromberg who scattered three hits over the first five innings of the game. Joe Testa (0-1) picked up the loss after getting shelled for 5 runs in the sixth. Chih-Hsien Chiang and Ray Chang had two RBIs each for the Sea Dogs and Tommy Hottovy (1-0) picked up the victory after hurling 3 solid innings in relief. The two teams will finish their series off bright and early tomorrow morning starting at 10:35am.
