Visiting Prospect Series II

Jesus Montero - C
The future heart of the New York Yankees lineup has been toiling in the Minors since 2007! Granted he was all of 17 years old when he first broke in with the Gulf Coast Yankees. He has moved up through the organization in each season and has increasingly proven his worth with each step. Jesus Montero has quickly become one of the best bats in not only the Yankees system but in all the Minors. Baseball America lists Montero as the Yankees #1 prospect and MLB.com has him as the 19th best prospect in all of Minor League Baseball. Since the Yankees farm system is loaded with catching talent, Montero may someday be pushed towards a 1B role. With the current big league club full of superstars who are locked into multi-year contracts, it may be tough for him to break through the lineup in any role other than DH. Yet if he improves his defensive skills behind the dish, he could be primed to fill the shoes of Jorge Posada, who is now 39 with 2 years left on his current contract. For now, the 20 year old Montero will continue to polish off any rough edges in the Minors, starting the 2010 season with the AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees of the International League. The following are dates when Trenton visits New England so you can catch the future Yankee slugger in action:

Trenton @ Pawtucket Red Sox: 6/29 - 7/2; 8/5 - 8/8

Domonic Brown - OF
At 6'5", 205lbs, Domonic Brown stands as the epitome of a five-tool player. As if the Philadelphia Phillies weren't good enough, they now have in storage one of the best prospects in the game. His work ethic, athletic ability and approach to the game have helped Brown hone his skills into what is now a complete package-in-wait. Brown is the #1 prospect in the Phillies system according to Baseball America and the 14th best prospect in the Minors according to MLB.com. He is still considered a bit raw in the power department, but he does have a great eye and patience at the plate which should help develop more pop. He starts the 2010 season with the AA Reading Phillies but experts believe he will make the jump to AAA Lehigh Valley at some point and could even be a September call-up by the Phillies. Here are the dates when Reading visits New England and we'll let you know if he makes the jump to AAA:

Reading @ New Britain Rock Cats: 7/5 - 7/8
Reading @ New Hampshire Fisher Cats: 4/30 - 5/2; 6/28 - 6/30
Reading @ Portland Sea Dogs: 5/3 - 5/6; 6/4 - 6/6
