B.J. LaMura Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats seem to be running a monopoly in the Eastern League. For the eighth time this season the Cats have one of their own as a Player of the Week. This time the honor goes to pitcher B.J. LaMura who had a huge week, picking up two much needed wins against Harrisburg and Trenton. He worked 12 near-spotless innings, giving up only 1 earned run, 4 hits and striking out 13 batters along the way. For the week his ERA was 0.75 and his WHIP a minuscule 0.58. His efforts helped catapult the Fisher Cats back into first place in the Eastern Division of the Eastern League. Congrats to B.J. LaMura on receiving the Pitcher of the Week honor!

LOCAL EL NOTES:
  • The New Hampshire Fisher Cats took a 1/2 game lead over the Trenton Thunder in the Eastern Division after a 10-4 victory on Sunday. Kyle Drabek picked up his 11th win on the season and the Cats took the last three games of the four game series after dropping the first.
  • Portland Sea Dogs catcher Luis Exposito is so on fire that he is at risk of burning through his bat supply. Over his last five games he batting .455 with 10 hits, 2 home runs, 2 doubles and 10 runs batted in.
  • Last, but certainly not least, is the long awaited WIN that was picked up by New Britain's Mike McCardell! After a brutal 0-12 start to the season, McCardell finally picked up a victory against the Bowie Baysox this past Saturday. He threw 5 innings, allowing 1 earned run and 3 hits in helping the Rock Cats scrape out a 3-1 triumph. Congrats to Mike McCardell for gutting it out through his first 20 starts of the season to get to this point.
