Congratulations to New Hampshire Fisher Cats' starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez for picking up Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors for the period of June 20th - 26th. Alvarez becomes the third straight pitcher from a New England team to get the nod, following New Britain's Brett Jacobson and Portland's Stephen Fife.
And just like Jacobson and Fife, Alvarez did it with just one start during the period, on the 21st versus the Altoona Curve at home. Here are Alvarez's numbers from that outing:
W, 7 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 5 K
The Venezuelan native was ranked as the 17th best prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays system by Baseball America heading into the season. He made two starts with Class-A Dunedin before jumping up to the Fisher Cats in mid-May. Since arriving he has compiled a 4-2 record with a 2.30 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP in seven starts.
Alvarez became the second Fisher Cats Pitcher of the Week, joining Joel Carreno, and the sixth player from a New England team to garner PotW honors this season, all from the Eastern League.
