Congratulations are once again in order for a local player, as New Britain Rock Cats’ pitcher Brett Jacobson picked up Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors for the period of June 13th to the 19th. It is the second straight week that a player a New England based Minor League team won the honors. Portland’s Stephen Fife picked up the nod last week, and just like Fife, Jacobson did it with just one dazzling start on the week (versus the Reading Phillies on 6/17).
Jacobson’s line for the week:
W, CG, 0 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 8 K
For the season, the 6'6" righty from Phoenix is 3-0 with a 1.92 ERA. He started the season in the bullpen, made a couple of nice spot starts, then was recently thrust into the rotation where he has made five straight starts. In his seven starts on the season, Jacobson has only allowed 6 earned runs in 35 innings pitched.
Jacobson joins teammate Yangervis Solarte as PotW winners in the 2011 season and is the fifth New England based player to take the honors this season in the Eastern League.
