Game of the DayIron Pigs vs. Paw Sox – Pawtucket has rattled off three straight games against first place Lehigh Valley, allowing them a three game cushion over the .500 mark, while also pulling them to 5 ½ games back of the Iron Pigs. Kyle Weiland hits the hill for the Paw Sox on Father’s Day, looking to avenge a loss his last time out against Charlotte on Monday. He leads the team in innings pitched (66 1/3) and has had four quality starts over his last ten outings. The Paw Sox pitching staff currently leads the International League in WHIP (1.22) and is second in ERA (3.23). Scott Mathieson goes for the Iron Pigs, who are trying to leave Pawtucket without being roasted for four straight games. This will be Mathieson’s first start of the season after 18 relief outings that netted him a 2.93 ERA over 27 2/3 innings. He has struck out 28 batters on the year, but has also allowed 13 free passes. Mathieson did spend some time with the Phillies at the beginning of May and saw the mound twice in relief and allowed no runs. A loss for the Iron Pigs today would tie their longest losing streak of the season. A win for the Paw Sox would give them their second longest win streak of the year. Pawtucket hits the road for eight games after today, starting with four in Louisville, followed by four in Indy.
