Game of the Day – Fisher Cats vs. Thunder – The two best teams in E.L.’s Eastern Division kick off a three game series at Waterfront Park in Trenton as the Fisher Cats travel to the home of the Thunder. After ten games played against each other this year, Trenton has the upper-hand with a 6-4 record in the series thanks to a three game sweep in New Hampshire at the beginning of June. But New Hampshire holds the upper-hand where it counts most, in the standings, as they have a four game cushion over the second place Thunder and they come into the game riding a five game win streak. Henderson Alvarez starts for New Hampshire tonight, his eighth start since joining the Fisher Cats. He suffered his worst defeat of the season at the hands of the Thunder back on June 5th when he allowed 5 earned runs on 7 hits. However, since then he has had three solid starts where he combined for 20 2/3 innings allowing only 3 earned runs, 11 hits and 3 walks. Alvarez’s opponent in that June 5th loss was Craig Heyer, whom he will face again tonight. Heyer went 6 1/3 in that game, picking up the win after allowing only 2 earned runs. In his last outing he pitched 6 1/3 innings in relief against the Portland Sea Dogs who beat him up for 7 runs on 8 hits. Including tonight’s game, these two teams have 10 games remaining against each other.
