Game of the Day – Tigers vs. Lake Monsters – Connecticut and Vermont face off once more to close out the first go-round of games versus teams of the New York Penn League’s Stedler Division. The Lake Monsters have taken the first two games from the Tigers and look for the sweep tonight at Centennial Field. Connecticut currently has a .204 batting average and has only scored 22 runs so far this year in seven games; both numbers are second worst in the NYPL. However they do have the second best team ERA in the league at 2.70, thanks in part to Brennan Smith who pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings against Lowell in his first start with the Tigers this year. The Lake Monsters have the worst team ERA (5.23) in the league and are tied for the worst team WHIP (1.42), but have somehow managed to plant themselves atop the division with a 5-2 record. J.C. Menna, who notched a win against Tri-City in his first start of the season, gets the nod for Vermont tonight. Jordan Tripp (.346) and Zhi Fang Pan (.333) have led the Lake Monsters offense thus far, both tallying 5 RBI and 5 runs scored. Defensively, the Lake Monsters have only had 5 errors on the season while the Tigers have had 12 fielding blunders.
