Game of the Day – Sea Dogs vs. Aeros – Oh poor, poor Stolmy Pimentel is two plus months deep into the season and has yet to back any of the hype that came along with him following a nice season in Salem last year that included an appearance in the MLB Futures Game. Stolmy creeped into the Red Sox top pitching prospect listings, but has steadily creeped down the depth charts since arriving in Portland. He has yet to win a game (his 8 losses are most in the Eastern League) and his ERA is as inflated as Tim Thomas’ tires. In three of his last four starts Stolmy has only lasted 1 1/3 innings and allowed six or more earned runs in each of those games. He has yet to face Akron, so hopefully that helps him finally turn things around and figure out this whole “Double-A” thing. T.J. McFarland is scheduled to throw for the Aeros, his eleventh start of the season since his call up from Class-A Kinston. McFarland has had a mixed bag of starts since arriving in Akron, but has tossed two complete games, tied for most in the Eastern League. Aeros outfielder Tim Fedroff leads the Eastern League with a .345 batting average and Matt McBride powers the Akron offense and is tied for fifth in the Eastern League in home runs (12) and sixth in RBI (40). Temps in Akron are in the high-70s with chances of thunderstorms and the first pitch set for 7:05pm.
