Game of the Day – Rock Cats vs. RPhils – The Rock Cats pull into Reading, Pennsylvania just one half game behind the Phillies for third place in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division. The Cats have lost four of their last five games and the RPhils have fared no better over the same span, winning just two of their last five. New Britain has Brett Jacobson, who has quietly put up some nice numbers. Tonight will be his seventh start of the season and he has gone 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in his prior six starts. Jacobson was previously a reliever before being thrown into the rotation for good at the end of May following some quality spot starts at the beginning of that month. In his last start, Jacobson went 5 innings against Erie, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 4. He will opposed by J.C. Ramirez tonight, who after a blazing start to the season (April: 4-0, 1.08 ERA), has since come crashing down (since April: 1-5, 7.00 ERA). Some more good news for the Cats is that RPhils first-baseman Cody Overbeck, of “leading the Eastern League in home runs and RBI” fame, was just called up to AAA Lehigh Valley two days ago. The bad news is that they still feature Matt Rizzotti (11 HR, 42 RBI) and Derrick Mitchell (11 HR, 43 RBI) and a very potent offense.
