Pawtucket Red Sox (Kyle Weiland 1-1, 4.26)
vs. Rochester Red Wings (Anthony Swarzak 1-0, 2.30)
Game of the Day – PawSox vs. Red Wings – This is our GotD for a few reasons. One is the obvious; there are no other games being played today. The second, as PawSox broadcaster Dan Hoard reminds us in THIS great piece this morning, is that “The Longest Game Ever” was played 30 years ago on Easter, with the same combatants at it once again today. Kyle Weiland takes the hill for Pawtucket in his fourth start of the season. His last two starts came against the Syracuse Chiefs where he picked up one win in 9 2/3 innings of work, striking out 14 batters and allowing only 1 earned run in each appearance. Unfortunately his other start came against Rochester and he got shelled. Weiland went 3 innings against the Wings back on April 8th and allowed 7 hits and 4 earned runs before getting the hook. Rochester starter Anthony Swarzak is also making his fourth start of year. He faced the PawSox back on Opening Day and despite only going 4 2/3 innings; he completely shut them down, allowing only 3 hits, 1 walk and no earned runs while whiffing 7. It’s Easter Sunday, the birds are legitimately chirping right outside of my window, the sun is shining bright and there is baseball! Happy holidays to all and enjoy the game.
