Game of the DaySpinners vs. IronBirds – The Spinners brought the IronBirds back to reality, stopping Aberdeen’s season-high 1 game win streak dead in its tracks! Tonight they place Jason Garcia on the hill of the rubber-match of the series. Garcia, an 18-year-old righty is on the organization’s radar, especially given his early entry into pro ball last season when he was only 17. Thus far this season Garcia has allowed only 2 earned runs in 3 starts, but he has walked 8 batters, second most on the team. He has also not struck out a batter in his last two starts, but he did pick up the “W” in both of those outings. He will be opposed by Jake Cowan, a 2007 14th round selection of the Boston Red Sox (and eventually a 2009 10th rounder by Baltimore). Cowan is another young gun on the radar of the big wigs in Baltimore, but they will be taking things cautiously with him after he required labrum surgery on his shoulder last season. So he has returned to Aberdeen, where he started his pro career in 2009, and thus far he has gone at least 5 innings and has allowed 2 earned runs or less in three of his four starts. Cowan’s 10 free passes ranks as second most in the New York-Penn…After stealing two bases last night, Lowell's Keury De La Cruz now leads the league with 11 stolen bases. Teammates Gerin Cecchini and Jose Garcia both have 7 and Matty Johnson has 5, but despite these four base thieves being near the top of the leader board, Lowell is only second in the league as a team with 35 total SBs, two behind leader Mahoning Valley. Aberdeen is second to last in the league with 15 swipes.
