Game of the DayCyclones vs. Lake Monsters – Brooklyn is 23-18 and are already 7 games out of first place in the McNamara Division; Vermont is 21-19 and has a three game lead in the Stedler. It’s vital for the Lake Monsters to take advantage of their congenial position and start to build on it. The Cyclones meanwhile must already look towards the Wild Card for their playoff chances. Today at Centennial Field in Burlington, these two teams will go out it a doubleheader on the kind of summer day that Ernie Banks was speaking of. Brooklyn has Orlando Tovar and Carlos Vazquez as their starting pitchers. Tovar will be making his first start of the season after 13 relief appearances and Vazquez gets his ninth start and third straight on the road. For the Lake Monsters, Drew Granier looks to build off of a strong first start last Monday when he worked four scoreless innings. Kurt Wunderlich will be looking to notch his first win of the season for the Monsters in his sixth start of the year…The Cyclones have the second lowest team ERA (3.16) and have allowed the fewest walks (116) in the NYPL…The Lake Monsters lead the league with 72 total stolen bases.
